MINDY
Mindy is a female hound dog with a laid-back and affectionate personality. She enjoys her walks and is friendly to all the people and other dogs that she encounters on her walks.
Like all dogs, but especially hound dogs, she explores and interacts with the world primarily through her sense of smell. She is usually nose to the ground and follows scent trails wherever they lead her.
- Her leash manners are quite good. She is, however, a strong dog, and a firm grip on the leash is necessary; she ignores squirrels but will chase rabbits if they’re in sight, and foxes fire up her hunting instincts, and she becomes very excited when she sees or smells one.
- Mindy is an intelligent dog, and her current level of training could be enhanced by an adopter who can spend time with her and provide consistent verbal commands and hand signals.
- Her vocalizations are not like dog bark but rather more like the traditional baying of hound dogs. She is usually quiet inside the house and on her walks, but she can get loud when excited by a rabbit or fox. She does calm down quickly and becomes quiet again.
- While out on walks, Mindy will lead the way, if given her head, but will also follow the walker’s lead when necessary. While she has the lead, she will move at a good pace and smell everything she encounters. About every 5-10 minutes, she will come back to the walker and seek some ear scratches and vocal affection.
All in all, Mindy is an affectionate companion who will bring joy to whoever welcomes her into their lives. She will need a fenced yard and daily opportunities for exercise, play, and affection.
