UPDATE: See how sad & confused Charleen looks in this picture? This was taken when she first arrived from a horror situation in WV. She is not unhappy or confused anymore -- we found her the perfect Mom & she has started her new life being a beloved companion pet. All dogs deserve to have a home like Charleen. We're very very happy for this sweet, gentle, loving soul.
Foster Mom Update: What a tiny, mild mannered, sweet, affectionate little woman my Charleen is! She is under 30 pounds and just gets cuter every day. She is one of the WV Wetzel hounds who is extremely grateful to have people who are kind to her, feed her, and tell her how pretty she is. She spends her time my kitchen where I spend most of my time, and on my sofa. I know she never had the joy of living indoors much less to be permitted on a sofa. She must be adopted by someone who will allow her on the sofa - she deserves that after the hard life she has had.
She doesn't have much interest in other dogs, she is more interested in being with humans so I think it would be best if she is an only child so that she can be the most devoted, loyal to her new parents. We also will not place her with children since she hasn't shown to be a "bona-fide kid lover" which is the only kind of dog we do place with children 8 years old and up.
More About Charleen - This sweet little one has been rescued by L&F Dog Rescue. She arrived on our WV transport 9-05-09. She has the highest honor of being one of Rosy's very favorite's. This is what Rosy has to say about her:
Charleen is about 1 1/2 years old, came in very thin & covered with fleas and arrived with her 4 pups. She is beyond sweet, very submissive and docile. She is extremely well mannered and eager to please.
When the owner gave her up since SHE had pups AGAIN, like it was her fault! --- he said that she killed his cat & he punched her in the face - he seemed proud of that. Now she was a starved female trying to take care of & feed her babies so she may not be a real cat killer - but just to be sure, we will not place her with cats.
PLEASE NOTE: A fence is always mandatory - no exceptions. Be sure to read ALL our adoption policies prior to applying for a puppy/dog. ~~ If you do NOT agree with our adoption policies - please feel free to apply at a rescue that you do agree with.
If qualified by meeing our adoption policies requirements you may apply online - you must first register on the website and await an e-mailed passcode. Once you have this info, you will be able to access our application.
Our adoption donation is $200 which is (1/2) of what we've actually spent to properly vet & spay/neuter each of our dogs. Adoption donation for any dog 5 years and up is $100.
All L&F dogs/pups live in foster homes ~ Housebroken & Crate Trained ~ UTD with all shots ~ Spayed/Neutered ~ Microchipped ~ De-Wormed ~ Chosen for sweet & gentle dispositions.
Any dog/pup adopted from us MUST have a fenced in property either Physical or Petstop Electric Fence. We do not accept any other brand due to the high failure rate. The fence must be installed or signed contract prior to us completing an adoption application. If you need an electric fence contact the company Petstop @ www.petstop.com
We abide by the Humane Association's recommendation. For ANY DOG adoption to have a relatively good chance of success, we believe a child should be 8 years old & up. We only adopt what we call our "BONA-FIDE Kid Lovers to families with children." Many dogs do not want to live with children. You should only adopt a dog who LOVES kids to be sure you are able to make a lifetime commitment to a dog.
We also expect that if no one is home all day, arrangements will be made to provide the dog with at least (1) "potty break" daily. This can be through a family member, neighbor, or Petsitting service. We know that it is impossible for us humans to "hold it" for 8-10 hours, so we do not want our "shelter kids" to be expected to do so.
We have several Petsitting service companies that we can recommend:
Donna Carrol, Serving the Wilmington DE area - 302-312-4788
Dogtopia Daycare & Spa – Wilmington DE – 302-622-4788 - www.dogdaycare.com/wilmington
