UPDATE from the girls parents:
Here are a couple of pictures of the girls in their new home. I thought you might like to see them...We will send some more as we take them. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to give the girls a new home and rest assured they will be loved and well taken care of for the rest of their days....
Ray,Amy, and Emma :)
We were able to accomplish what we wanted to do ... we found a wonderful family from MD to adopt our girls TOGETHER! They just left to go to their forever home and now they have a Mommy, Daddy and their very own little girl to love. It was a GOOD day in rescue!!
These purebred labs 18 month old are real sisters (1) is Chocolate that's Calle and Coda is pure black.
UPDATE: Coda, the pretty black girl with the long ears had a playdate with her Aunt Beth & Uncle Pete for the day. This is what they have to say about her visit:
I must first say...what a sweetie. After the initial half hour of sniffing every room of the house Coda settled in quickly to the routine of the day. I showed her where the door was to go outside, and she quickly caught on. The next time she had to go, she went right to that door and whined to tell me she needed to go out--when she is ready to come in, she jumps up so that I can see her head outside the door. Coda LOVES to play ball, and just like a lab, will retrieve the ball for you as long as you both want to play. I could take the ball right from her mouth to throw over and over. She knows how to sit, take a treat nicely, and to lay down. Coda needs a little extra practice with walking on the leash, but from our experience today she will catch on fast, and become a good walking buddy. She was very comfortable walking up and down our carpeted stairs, and would come out of any room when we called her. She did jump up on our couch to lay next to me with her head in my lap, so she is an 80 pound lap dog at times! She was a little curious about our two cats going nose to nose with them, but did not try to chase them, and when they hissed Coda would back up from them. She is very playful, but will settle down and fall asleep after her romping around. She took two good naps at our house today, and at times we would hear that "happy doggy sigh".
UPDATE from Calle's foster Mom: Calle is the chocolate with the toy in her mouth. That is what Calle looks like all the time because she ALWAYS has a toy in her mouth, and the squeaker the better. She has a game she plays with her sister and that is "I want whatever toy YOU have!" and they exchange toys all day. Calle is very, very affectionate, they both are, but Calle seems to want human contact as much as possible. She comes over to stand near me when I'm working in the kitchen and she just leans on me. She even places herself between my legs when I'm doing the dishes. I'm surprised but I've gotten the hang of moving around with her that close. I just look down at those sweet, loving eyes and promise to find her a new family who will love her until she takes her final breath a very, very long time from now.
Both girls love to get up on the sofa and watch TV with us. As Aunt Beth mentioned, they like to have their paws laying on top of you if that is at all possible. They settle nicely and just want to be close to people.
They each have sweet, loving, gentle souls and anyone would be very lucky indeed to bring one or both of these girls in their lives. Who ever adopts them will be adored and while they love playing doggy games and with doggy toys, they LOVE people even more.
These purebred labs are real sisters and their family had to give them up. NOT that they did anything wrong, it's just that they are very BIG, 80 pounds each, 1 1/2 year old LABS who need a lot of room to play and attention. People need to understand & be passionate about the breed of labs.
The only cost involved with them to our rescue will be $100 which is needed to pay for their micro-chips and Heartworm medication that they have been put on. Since we did not provide their medical treatment, they do not have our standard adoption donation. They are spayed and up to date with all their shots, are crate trained and get along
with dogs & cats & children.
I have been living with the girls and they really do love to play with each other for hours. They run around my large fenced in yard chasing each other, teeth fighting, and generally having just a wonderful time together. They do get along with the other dogs & LOVE the cat! Calle gave my cat a bath that left her soaking wet!
Someone needs to be experienced at dog training to handle a 80 pound labby girls! For that reason, we will request that their adopters have previous experience with the breed and a completely fenced in yard OR takes long walks daily. They need to be able to expend their energy running and playing. After an hour or so of that, then they do come in and settle.
They are both so sweet, loveable. so darling and truly beautiful!! They are always ready to give you LOTS and LOTS of kisses and to show you all their toys! As always their pictures to not show how really pretty they are! You must come in person to see how these beauties!
Their family has this to say about the girls, Calle is the chocolate and Coda is the black. Both girls adore going for walks, and they love to play catch with anyone. Their favorite chew toys are rawhides shaped in circles. If you go to the freezer they request their share of ice cubes please and if you're headed toward the pantry, some peanut butter in their Kongs would be much appreciated. They are completely housetrained. If you lay on the floor, they will want to lay on top of
you and chew on their toys. They understand basic commands such
as sit, stay and lay down, but a refresher course may be necessary since their parents have been very busy for the last 5 months with the new baby.
Water ... the hardest job you will have is to get these two OUT of the
tub during a bath or any kind of water that they can find. They are labs and labs really, really do love water! If there is a puddle a lab with find
it and splash around it in!
The girls are very rambunctious with each other and play all day with
the "teeth fighting" and running and chasing each other. It is great that
they have each other to expend that energy on. They have never growled, bit or scared anyone. They are great with other dogs however they have never lived with other animals.
They are in foster care at my home and they are doing very well except of course they are confused as to why they are here. They are crated trained, up to date with their shots, spayed, housetrained, and their medical records will be provided to their new family.
They get along with other dogs, kids and people and are just WONDERFUL in the car. One looks out one window and the other the other side. They are sweet and loveable girls and we hope
to get lots of qualified applications on them.
