UPDATE: After (8) applications on SweetPea, we feel her forever family might have come along. She is such a special case that she could only go to a family who had experience with her abuse issues. She went home to see if she can adapt to her new life and we certainly hope & pray for this sweet pup that finally, she will learn to feel safe and loved for the rest of her life.

QUIET HOME NEEDED: This is my beloved SweetPea. She is very special and we are trying to locate a foster or permanent home for her that is quiet. Every L&F Foster Family has multiple dogs and busy and hectic lives so we feel we need to move her to a quiet location.
She needs someone who is just as special as she is to help her to trust again. She was terribly beaten by a man and was terrified of men. She had been terrified of my husband's presence ---but because he is working with her, she does stay in the same room with him now.
She would never harm a human being, it would be impossible for her spirit do to that. What she does is --- she runs and hides for fear you are "going to hurt her again."
She wants human contact but it has been a slow process for her. "Experienced dog owners" only should apply for SweetPea.
She wants to love, give lots of kisses, and be held, she just needs someone with a quiet and gentle spirit. She runs for her life over loud to moderate noises. We do not know why.
She has made great strides with me but she really, really needs someone who has had experience working with dogs who have been abused.
I know she will be OK someday but it will take a huge amount of love & patience to gain her full trust. It has taken almost a month for her to join us in the living room at night when we sit to watch TV.
When she sees me, she wiggles her whole body, she smiles, she really does! She is completely submissive. She wants to be hugged and petted and sometimes she is just joyful when she is out playing with the other dogs. She just LOVES other dogs and we would like to see her adopted into a family that already has a dog. Another dog makes her feel safe. She also needs a completely fenced in property for her safety.
We also do not want to place her with children just because of the noise that they make just playing.
We feel the best place for her is with an older, settled couple who have
a peaceful life style. Then and only then, do I feel she will be able to become the wonderful baby girl she deserves to be.
This little SweetPea is about 1 year old, spayed, & is 35 pounds.
She came in from our favorite shelter in WV. She was surrendered by her owner with her sister and the reason was they just could not afford to feed them anymore.
SweetPea has a kind and gentle spirit but she is very, very shy and extremely timid. Already she has made great progress in foster care. She will need to be placed with people who will be kind and gentle with her.
She loves other dogs, cats & everything but I do feel she must have had abuse in her life. She will make a wonderful companion to someone who has the time to treat her with love and kindness.
All L&F dogs/pups are crate & potty trained, temperament tested, have been chosen for sweet & gentle dispositions,
have lived in foster homes with families, and have had the following:
Microchipping
Tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia
Kept on HeartGuard & Frontline Plus
Rabies, Distemper, Parvo vaccines.
Intra Trac ll Kennel Cough
Two De-Worming
Spay/Neuter certificate, where applicable.
No dog 6 months and up will ever leave L&F Dog Rescue without being spayed/neutered. Spay/Neuter is MANDATORY.
